Fredrick Adewale Da-Costa is a serial entrepreneur, a technology consultant, an author and a cyber security educator and advocate. Fredrick teaches and trains on various aspects of cyber security, which include topics such as cyber security best practices, threat identification and prevention, security tools and technologies, and incident response. Born in 1967 in Lagos, Nigeria, Fredrick grew up in a middle-class family and showed an early interest in writing, teaching and engineering.
After completing his secondary school education, Fredrick attended the Lagos State University, in Lagos, Nigeria, where he studied Electronics and Computer Engineering. During his time at Lagos State University, he became the second President of the The Engineering Student Society of Lagos State University, where he pioneer the publication of the first engineering magazine “The LASU Engineer” (The Lagos State University Engineer) in May 1991.
Fredrick was also acknowledged for the highly significant leadership role he played for representing all “Engineering Students in Nigeria”, by the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria and Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (COREN/CODET) in a joint conference on the Future of Engineering Education in Nigeria in December 1991.
After completing his undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Computer Engineering in September 1994, he participated and completed the mandatory twelve months National Youth Service Corps (NYSC – a program set up by the Nigerian government during the military regime to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country), where he worked as an Electronics Engineer at Benue Cement Company, and Assistant Lecturer (Computer Science Department) at The Polytechnic Ibadan, at Benue and Oyo States respectively. He was offered a full employment in July 1996, as an Assistant Lecturer (Computer Science Department) due to his performance at The Ibadan Polytechnic, Oyo State, after the completion of the National Youth Service Corps program.
Fredrick later moved to head the Information Technology Department of Nigerian Logging and Support Services (NLSS – is the mud-logging drilling section bought by a Nigerian company), as a Hardware Engineer in October 1996. He became the first Information Technology staff and worked with drilling engineers to solve mud-logging drilling hardware and software issues on the drilling rig and off the rig. He was responsible for all Information Technology policies, including information security and network security.
Due to the economy hardship in Nigeria in 1998 by the military government, several companies ceased operations and gone out of business. It was a difficult and stressful time for employees, investors, and stakeholders of several companies in Nigeria, as they may lose their jobs, money, or other investments. NLSS was affected and I was asked to leave based on redundancy, and this kick start my entrepreneurship in Nigeria, in which Da-Costa F. A. and Company was founded and officially registered in 1998.
As the Business Owner of Da-Costa F. A. and Company, I engage clients as a Technology Consultant to solve Business problems using Technology, based on my understanding of how Technology works and how it can be used to solve Business problems. My specialty to date includes sourcing for clients, consultative selling, cyber security education and awareness, information and network securities and technology solution deals closing, in which Fredrick has become a sought-after by technology solution providers / companies in Nigeria to educate their employees on Cyber Security Education and Awareness and Technology Solution difficult deals closing.
In addition to teaching and closing of difficult deals, coupled with implementation and project management of technology solutions, Fredrick is actively involved in the teaching, coaching and mentor-ship of professionals globally on Technology Solution deals closing and Cyber Security Education and Awareness.
Fredrick founded other successful businesses in the food and agriculture, restaurant and seafood sectors.
Fredrick attended and completed the Angleton Citizen Police Academy (32nd Graduating Class) at Angleton Police Department, Angleton, Texas, United States in June 2019, and also attended the Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) and Law Enforcement Annual Convention Training in August 2019.
Fredrick is a member of Angleton Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (ACPAAA), and a member, Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (TCPAAA), Region #1, in Texas, United States of America.
In January 2023, Fredrick started a “Cyber Security OpenEducation. Foundation to Mastery” weekly newsletter on LinkedIn and Medium to teach Cyber Security Education and Awareness to over 5000 professionals in my network and other professionals globally.
Fredrick is blessed with two sons and two daughters, and currently lives in Lagos and Abuja, in Nigeria, where he continues to write and teach Cyber Security Education and Awareness, inspiring and empowering others to make a positive difference in the world.
